Personal Confidence Training

August 31st, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

Summary of main points.

Confidence is a natural state which, if it’s lacking, requires you to build it up. When you have true confidence you don’t think about it, you don’t feel it, you just get on and do what you want to do.

Confidence is about being comfortable with who you are and having the skills, knowledge and habits to do what you want. It’s about being satisfied with where you are in your life’s journey right now. On this journey you can expect to learn more, change your priorities and acquire different passions and aspirations. If you’re not changing you’re just standing still. If you’re focusing only on the destination rather than the journey, then you’re introducing tension.

Whatever it is you choose to do that’s important to you requires a certain amount of knowledge, skills and habits. When you have those then you can do those important things. When you don’t have them you’ll struggle or worse, won’t even try doing even those things.

Since confidence is a natural state of being, it’s only when you have a lack of confidence that it becomes an issue.

The gap is the difference in your mind between where you think you are right now and where you think you should be. Both are made up by you, and the bigger the gap the more stressed you’ll tend to feel. Tension and stress most certainly undermine confidence.

We all have a false idea of where we currently are, but you can change both where you want to go and how you perceive things right now. Learning to be mindful about your daily life will get you more rooted in the here and now. Rather than slowing you down it allows you to remove distractions, allowing you to focus more of your energy on living the life you have. And the amazing things – that boosts your confidence.

Lose Weight With A “Magic” Pill

August 31st, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

You’ve probably heard of the newest diet wonder of the world… Hoodia Gordonii. It’s the most well known of all diet pills, but is this because it works or simply because it has more marketing muscle behind it? Hmmm…

Hoodia comes from South Africa and is a cactus like plant. It’s only in the last few years that Hoodia is being marketed for weight loss purposes thanks to its amazing ability to curb ones appetite.

It’s a bit of a minefield these days finding pure Hoodia. There is no surefire way to prove that it is pure prior to purchasing the product and therefore there are many fraud diet products on the market that claim to contain Hoodia Gordonii. Always keep an eye out for official certification on the packaging or in the sales material for the product – there are a lot of fraudsters out there and when you buy hoodia you want to make sure it’s the real deal!

Most of the companies that produce Hoodia based diet supplements claim that there are no side effects but there are a few things that you should keep in mind. As for the question is hoodia safe, well…since Hoodia makes the body believe that it has enough sugar it may not be a good idea for those with diabetes to use it. Be sure to keep up your intake of fluids while using products that contain Hoodia. All in all though, Hoodia pills are a great addition to any diet and they can greatly increase your chances of weight loss if used correctly.

Note: Be sure to consult with your physician before taking any medical advice.

Sleight of Hand vs Self Working Magic Tricks

August 31st, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

One of the debates you may come upon in the magic world concerns “self-working” magic tricks and whether or not these tricks are just as good as those requiring difficult sleights and moves, or if they are rather a cop-out to “real” magic.

To explore this, let’s first define what is meant by “self-working.”

Obviously, no trick works itself; it has to be performed and the performer usually has to do something – even if it’s pushing a hidden button – to achieve the effect. Self-working tricks are a mainstay of magic shops, especially those that cater to beginners. A seven-year-old just starting out in magic might be a little intimidated at the thought of performing a coin vanish, but will jump at the chance to use the simplest iterations of “egg-in-vase” or a change bag. As for whether or not the use of these tricks denotes a lack of skill, the answer is that it depends.

Magicians who perform for children often use large bright-colored props that are fairly self-working. The reason for this is that a true children’s magician knows that her performance is really what sells the trick to her audience. Thus she can take a mechanically simple prop like the magic coloring book and turn it into several minutes of wonder and amazement for her young audience.

Mentalists, especially those who work on stage also benefit from simple self-working props – and intense preparation! Much of the mentalist’s work is done before the show and thus he has no wish to risk it on the failure of an overhand pass or some such move.

Still it is true that in some cases, self-working tricks are merely substitutes for the hard work necessary to become a fine performer. For those thinking they are taking the easy way out, it’s good to remember that you’re going to have to dispose of that gimmick somewhere, somehow, and it is probably going to involve some sneaky move, i.e. a sleight.

The sleight, or the move, is really where most serious magicians begin their training. The great teacher Harlan Tarbell began his revered Course in Magic with a lesson on simple coin palming and vanishes.

The practice of sleights, be they with coins, card tricks, or sponge balls turns someone who merely likes to “do magic” into a real worker of miracles to her audience. And odds are, the better the effect, the more likely it is that there is going to be a sleight or a move of some kind involved in the execution of the effect.

So can you practice good magic without knowing anything about sleight-of-hand?

Certainly; a couple of situations were mentioned above. But it’s fair to say that you will really miss out on a large part of the art – the craft that is magic performance – by limiting yourself to self-working tricks.

So if nothing else, find a nice beginner’s book on card tricks or coins and work on your vanishes or double-lifts. You’ll not only find the mastery of these sleights fulfilling, but you’ll also enjoy the access you now have to the vast array of magical effects that have been produced over the years that rely on these classic moves.

A secret to great writing people forget to apply to the SAT Essay

August 30th, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

There is a secret to great writing, even though it’s not really a secret since so many people talk about it. It’s the kind of secret that sits right under your nose so you “accidentally” miss it. (Or not accidentally) because you don’t like what it requires of you.So what is this secret that’s not a secret?–write every day.

Or you can say it this way: Practice makes progress (since nothing is ever perfect). When I ask students (not mine) how many practice SAT Essays they’ve written the numbers they quote…4,5,6… can all fit on one or two hands. When I ask “How many will you write before the test?” They usually double or triple that number.

Awful. Why? Because with so little practice how can they ever hope to master a new set of skills? With so little practice they’re unlikely to improve much if at all. Now I know what you’re thinking–how can I set aside 25 minutes a day to write? I’ve got so many other parts of the test to prepare for?

Well, in my Summer classed I had students practice an hour a day and most could write stunning essays after just the first 3 weeks. By the end of 8 weeks almost the whole class could write high-scoring essays consistently. And so can you. But you won’t have to practice an hour a day.

I’ve since then come up with faster methods of teaching and you can do 10 minute exercises to learn the basics of my method. You can think of them like batting practice–you to get to perfect your swing over and over again without playing a full 9 inning game–ans as a result dramatically raise your batting average quickly.

Would you like to raise your SAT Essay score while practicing only minutes a day? Would you like to make the smallest investment in your college education that will pay you the highest dividends?

Yes. If so follow this link:SAT Essay. And reserve your copy of SAT Essay Success today.

Get Relief From Menopause Headaches

August 30th, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

If you are approaching the menopause and find you are suddenly suffering from extreme headaches, you are not alone. Almost half of the women that I speak to develop perimenopausal migraines, and I find they are one of the most debilitating Menopause Symptoms. While any women approaching the menopause can experience these headaches, they can be particularly severe in women that go through Early Menopause following surgery.

These headaches are largely caused by fluctuating hormone levels, with decreasing estrogen levels affecting the chemicals in the brain that cause headaches. To stabilise your hormone levels, your doctor may recommend Hormone Replacement Therapy, which can be an effective treatment. However, you should be aware that in some cases Hormone Replacement Therapy can actually make perimenopausal migraines worse, in which case you might want to consider alternative natural treatments.

Here are a few of the strategies I can recommend to reduce menopause headache symptoms:

- Keep a food diary to identify headache triggers such as MSG, chocolate, alcohol or caffeine.

- Learn relaxation techniques and try to reduce your stress levels.

- A massage with lavender or chamomile oil can relax you and stimulate the release of endorphins, your own natural pain killers.

- Make sure you get enough sleep and try to keep your sleep patterns consistent.

- Try holistic treatments such as acupuncture, which has a high success rate in reliving menopausal headaches.

You should find that your migraines improve once you actually enter the menopause and your hormone levels stabilise. However, you may experience tension headaches which can also be relieved using the above treatments.

Dog Grooming Answers

August 30th, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

Are you your dog’s personal groomer? If you are, you’ve probably stumbled upon a grooming problem or two, or maybe you just want to confirm a specific question on how to properly groom your dog. It’s possible you’ll find the answer you are seeking in the following four questions.

1. By the end of summer, my Australian Shepherd’s coat is always full of burrs and foxtails and I have to clip all his hairs off. How can I keep the burrs out when he runs out in the countryside all the time?

Brushing him thoroughly everyday is the only solution, although not exactly an easy job. The chances are that if you haven’t done it up till now you wouldn’t be inclined to keep it up. Why let him spend a miserable summer full of painful sticker only to clip his hair off just when he needs it at the beginning of a cold season?

Have him clipped short in late spring or early summer-before the weeds dry up. He’ll come through the summer happier and have some hair grown back by winter.

2. I have a shaggy mixed-breed that I maintain with regular brushing and bathing, but his stools catch in the long hair and stick to his skin. I’m concerned that he will look funny if I cut the hair in that area. What can I do?

You might try regulating his diet to prevent soft stools, but in the meantime, it’s better to cut the hair even if it looks funny. Be careful, though, because some dogs instinctively move toward the scissors as you touch the hair.

3. My Beagle gets a bath once a month and he scratches a lot. Is one bath monthly too often?

Once a month bathing might be too often for some dogs. Be sure you are getting all the shampoo rinsed out. Pet grooming shops use a spray hose because that’s really the only way to be sure of getting all the soap out. Go to a hardware store and get one that simply pushes onto the faucet. Also, be sure that your dog gets a balanced diet for a healthy coat and skin and that he doesn’t have fleas.

4. I’ve recently learned that there is a clip particularly for Cocker Spaniels. Should they be clipped or is it a matter of personal choice?

Any dog that is kept brushed, clean, and healthy is a good-looking dog. Clipping will turn your furry, loving dog into a gorgeous, elegant blueblood. Why not have it done just once so you’ll at least know what you’re missing? One advantage to having him clipped regularly is that his ears and toenails will be looked-after, and Cocker Spaniels have a tendency to have trouble with both.

Purchasing a dog house for my little puppy

August 30th, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

I just purchased a new dog house for my puppy and he loves it! It also helps that I bought a comfortable dog bed to fit inside the dog house; anything is probably better than the concrete. Lately I have noticed that as my dog gets a little older that he seems more and more uncomfortable sleeping on the hard ground and often begs at the back door to be let inside to sleep on the carpet. I am hoping that now he will have a comfy place outside to sleep, protected from the elements and raised off of the ground by the dog house and dog bed.

I am lucky that I have medium size dog and he does not get cold easily so he could sleep outside if needed. However he is small enough that I did not have to spend a fortune on a dog house. I saw online lots of large and really large dog houses and it seems great that there are so many options available to dog owners! They even have small dog houses for our smaller furry friends. I purchased a wood dog house for my dog, although I was deciding between the wood house and a plastic doghouse. I felt that the wood house was more attractive although the plastic house looked like it might be easier to move and clean. I think the wood dog house also is more comfortable for my dog since it does not have that new plastic smell. I know some people buy their dog a dog house only to have the dog totally avoid it! Luckily my dog likes his house, otherwise I was thinking I would just place an old towel or blanket inside so it would smell familiar.

Mobile Phone Mania

August 30th, 2008 by moonwalker | No Comments | Filed in news

Did you know that we have made the mobile phone a gadget that we cannot live without but one that means no matter where we are we can be contacted, no matter what the time is. Is being available at any time the price we must pay for technological advancements? It has become so much part or our lives that callers become annoyed when you don’t answer them, irrespective of the day or hour. They are supposed to be a convenience but have become a burden to many who do not understand this and refuse to ever switch them off, taking them wherever they go. The number of calls made that are actually life and death are quite small but it really boils down to our general impatience because we know that we can contact someone. John Lewis mobile phones and many other outlets offer such incredible deals that literally everyone should have at least one mobile phone in case that emergency crops up.

Today in this modern society we see people talking on mobile phones anywhere and everywhere. Business users must obviously be the biggest group of people to benefit of this technological breakthrough as there is very little the modern mobile phone cannot do. The biggest problem lies with those individuals who want to be available twenty four hours because they can never relax.

Unfortunately, mobile phone users can be in a world of their own when it comes to considering other peoples feelings. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere where you can be free of this almost constant intrusion. It is impolite but an indication of how society has changed since the mobile phones introduction.

It seems that many mobile phone users do not really care where they are as long as they can talk to the person calling them.

In a church for example when a service is being performed is a time when turning the phone off would be the common sense thing to do. This is because a ringing mobile phone will not just disturb you while you pray it will also disturb others.

I have lost count of the number of times at a meeting when everyone scrabbles for their phone when one of them rings with no-one knowing who it belongs too! Even worse is when they carry on and answer while the person holding the meeting has to wait for them to finish. Think about where you are and switch off the phone and you will find you are able to concentrate on what is going on around you much easier. However, if you are waiting for terribly important call, you may use the vibrate mode of your mobile phone to alert you when a call is in-coming and leave the meeting if you need to answer the call. You could also inform the possible caller that you are in a meeting and that you cannot be disturbed.

There are times when you absolutely must switch your mobile phone off, when flying for example but most people have now got the message regarding this safety issue. Over the last few years, airlines have become strict enforcers of ensuring mobile phones are not used on flights because of the interference they can cause. Airlines that have long flight times may when they see fit, relax this restriction and allow the use of mobile phones.

Just because almost everyone in the developed world has at least one mobile phone, the manufacturers are constantly thinking up new facilities to incorporate so we will upgrade and not become bored. Even though it is hard to imagine a world without the mobile phone it does not mean we should be a slave to it or become unthinking and rude because of it.
